DTC stands for Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

dashboard warning lights A DTC is generated by a vehicle's onboard diagnostics (OBD) system to alert you when a vehicle experiences a malfunction.

Diagnostic tests can reveal problems within a vehicle's engine, transmission, exhaust system, brakes, and other major components, as well as performance issues with the fuel injectors, air flow and coolant, ignition coils, and throttle. These codes can be read in conjunction with the manufacturers service manual to ascertain which systems, circuits or components require to be tested to fully diagnose the fault.
